Painting on carpet, 400m2.
During our first solo exhibition at the Villa du Parc in Annemasse in September 2003, we wanted to highlight the playful dimension of our work. "Act I, scene 1" is the in-situ piece that welcomed the visitors. The grids, drawn at the 4 corners of the red carpet which framed the Villa du Parc, were to be read as the definition of our situation within the collective: we were each in our respective boxes, animated by a deep desire to join us but conscious of the existence of a perceptible distance which dissociated us.
If we had envisaged, at the beginning, the possibility of revealing by this work a game of conquest between separated characters, the folding of the carpet, at the end of the exhibition, authorized us the development of a conjectured hypothesis: it will be necessary for us henceforth to conclude all our oppositions in a way which will be able to reconcile our interests. By folding the 400 m2 of the carpet, until its four corners coincide, we have achieved this. Today, the red carpet is folded, the four corners are united.
