lanternes traditionnelles - 116x90x40 cm. Video HD - 8' sonore - couleur
Hangzhou (CN), 2016.

In its development of putting in relation between a historicity of new technologies and ancient myths, the Collective 1.0.3 is interested, this time, in the traditional flying lanterns converted to computer format. It takes here the shape of the pictogram "hand" passing from the screen "plane" to the one of the sky, poetic metaphor of always bigger attempts of conquests of the space which, accompanied by numerous wishes try to touch the moon of the end of the finger.

Art Fair (China). 2016 - Résine, 200x100x80 cm - Liangzhu Art Museum (China). 2016 - stereolithography, 20x9,5x32 cm

Three periods of residence in China have punctuated the year of work of the collective. It is in this context that we have elaborated a project of sculptures in series. This edition "Shakunetsu Hadoken" has several origins, that of the buried soldiers of Xi'an and a large gestural repertoire belonging to the "trans-generational" video game Street Fighter that appeared at the end of the 80s. Timeless cultural vehicles, the two registers meet and combine to give birth to a series of multiples and giants, one of which is already produced and preserved in Tadao Ando's Liangzhu Museum (China). It is a question here of freely taking inspiration from the soldiers, then reinterpreting them and multiplying the figures and gestures.

Beyond our interest in the singular prints defined by the use of the common tool 'computer', we have a strong attraction to the reminiscence of three-headed bodies in the history of art. The trifron, or three-headed body, is a figure that is associated with different periods and conveys a monstrous image. It evokes a surprisingly rich formal vocabulary, a palette of representations stretching from the Greeks to our days. Under this characteristic of three heads partially merged, we dissociate several expressive currents and reasons of being sometimes contradictory. It can be an expression of organization having reached an ultimate degree of sophistication in the rules which govern a community, or be found on the contrary the expression of the trinity and of the intermediary essential to the balance between gods and men. We worked from the only image, taken in counter-view, of the restored trifron of the abbey of St Gemme, located in Saintonge, in order to elaborate this first realization of handle, making us switch from a demonstrative situation to an experiment of the domestication to three fronts.

Istanbul (T), 2011 - Video installation - 0'38" in loop - silent

38 seconds is the time corresponding to this video capture. The flashes of the cameras of the tourists present at this precise moment come to reveal a petrified representation of "the Medusa", base of one of the 336 columns formerly immersed under the waters of the reservoir in the Basilica Cistern of Istanbul, and thus allow to reverse the wrath of this Gorgon. The intensity of the light is then reflected on this mythological figure and manufactures the lure of a scanner that would cross the screen. The evocation of an ancient myth is confronted with the gestures of the meticulous and insistent documentation of the one who visits the world, and also proposes a reading of the posture of the artist in situation to explore this world.

Paris (F), 2015 - HD video projection - 45'' in loop - silent

The subject of this sequence is the focus defined, induced and automated by the video capture tool used. This artificial eye at work tries to define with precision what it is given to observe. In this case, the front side of a Greek 1 euro coin. Like "Medusa", "Athena's owl" becomes in its turn the object of a reversal. Gifted with exceptional vision, its legendary power is here associated with the expression of a fully automated tooling. Positioned like a moon, the owl observes us and dominates the exhibition space. Beyond the political wink on a precarious European economic situation, this work is a staging of a technological response time and an observation of the persistence of myths.

Paris (F), 2015 - 10 LCD screens, 10 mirrors on the floor, silent, variable duration in loop

A dozen small screens, and their shadows signified in mirrors on the floor, are concentrated in the space and decline a same crossing motif, that of the scanner. These luminous sweeps recall the principle of digitization. This installation functions according to constant rhythms able to evoke the autonomy of the "machines". From the computer green to the surgical white, the propagated light is representative of a genealogy of the screen.

HANGZHOU (CHINA), 2015 - Print on photo paper - 30x21 cm

The Collective 1.0.3 has chosen to represent a historical-technological framework of information storage. This pictorial proposal takes up the characteristics of a memory extract of "Torres de ferrite". The usual invisibility of these data carriers becomes here, in a reversal, a kinetic motif implying a perpetual displacement of the glance. In the continuity of its research on the "great narratives", the analogy with the Ariadne's l is omnipresent as well in the design as in the realization.

A meme defines a recognizable cultural element that is replicated and transmitted through the imitation of an individual's behavior by other individuals. It is through examples such as such as the "Harlem Shake" that a collective approach of the web is revealed, subject of a itinerary in the heart of digital cultures. In contact with them, our behaviors, our undergo very important mutations. To become conscious and sometimes actors of these transformations in progress, such is the approach that we chose approach that we have chosen to take as resident artists invited by the MAC/VAL to produce a work in the in the heart of a high school.
In this case, it is the meme "Hadoken" which became the raw material of our project. This meme has the particularity of introducing gestures from video games in the exchanges between students and their teachers. It revisits the social links active in a high school. While considering the question of the group portrait, of the recurrent class photo, this project seeks to identify the influence of new cultural referents on a given generation. Far from the simultaneity of diffusion implied by the internet, we divert these figures from their original environment. The time of the making of these images gives way to the time of their manipulation and their redistribution. From a repertoire of gestures from the world of video games, the students take up, in the form of aerial poses, the Darth Vader Chokehold, the Doble Kamehameha, the M.Bison Leviatation, the Fist of God, the Mega Buster, the Vader + Bison Psycho Mantis... We built a population of hadoken from the body expressions produced by the students of the divs thermal engineering, electrical engineering, horticulture, applied arts and patent of the trades of art. Cut out and printed on stickers, these extracted forms are the first elements of a folder which also includes a large leporello leaflet. Unlike the famous sticker books, which many generations have handled, this printed panorama does not contain a precise indication of the positioning of the figures. "The panorama was constructed from a regular cell grid. The idea was to obtain a code of variation in the lines and curves in order to create a score that responds to the gestural richness of the hadoken figures. The repertoire of materials plays with the depths and densities of a narrative dedicated to the code of replicas of a poetics of movement." MyNameIsWendy Through successive rebounds and different responses induced by the graphic game, each edition brings together the conditions for the production of a unique work, which reflects and repackages the meme in a paper universe.

or how to deal with the notion of portrait in the digital age based on the content of a computer hard drive, a temporary storage surface (the prism through which we have chosen to approach/study the Other), since the way of archiving and the naming processes of each folder and file allow to generate "by hand" a singular form (2D cartographic representation). Between 2003 and 2016, the Collective 1.0.3 produced 75 computer cartographies of individuals, public organizations, and private companies, creating true contemporary portraits where the nature and the way we classify our files reveal the structuring of our thoughts. The Planiscope, a 2D structure that builds the image, "by hand", of a flattening of scanned information. This structure states and announces an enterprise whose principle consists in examining a plane surface, a Planus-Skopeîn in a way, whose foundation consists in putting in image the whole of what appears on the desktop of the hard disk of the computers of artists invited to entrust us the names of their files as well as their positions in the arborescence. In the manner of arabesques, the Planiscopes are arrangements that expose the meeting of the Arab world - as an aesthetic universe of vegetal and ornamental development - and a universe generated by the evolution of technologies. The title of each planiscope bears the name of the "punctured" artist followed by the date of the computer scan. The content of the computer "desktop" being specific to each person and linked to the use of this tool, the planiscopes reflect the organizational resources of each participant. These imprints take the form of word nebulae. Color codes make it possible to differentiate the "portraits" of artists (green), those of individuals dependent on institutions (red), those carried out within the framework of residences (blue) and companies (white).
